Taking a Stand Against Obesity in America
More than one-third of U.S. adults are obese, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Unfortunately, inactive lifestyles and obesity continue to be tremendous issues, impacting the physical and mental health of too many Americans and their families.
Our parent company, Nautilus Inc., recognizes the severity of this epidemic and has always made a point of educating its employees and consumers on how to live healthier lifestyles, beyond the use of fitness equipment. It is because of these core values that Nautilus has become an Alliance Sponsor of PHIT America (Personal Health Investment Today), a national educational campaign to fight against the obesity and sedentary crisis in the United States, which is also significantly affecting health care costs in our country.
PHIT America is a non-profit organization that was founded in January 2013 by the sports and fitness industry to strengthen the advocacy against obesity and to educate Americans on how to be more active and healthy. The organization promotes grassroots community programs, such as Kids in the Game, which provides financial assistance and other support to community based sports and physical education programs throughout the United States. PHIT has also implemented the PHIT Act, currently pending legislation in Congress, which will allow for Americans to use pre-tax medical accounts to pay for physical activity expenses; this would encourage healthier lifestyles and reduce healthcare costs.
