Mental Motivation

Fat loss isn't just all about working hard and eating healthy. It's about getting in the right frame of mind…and THAT, my friends, is difficult. It takes practice and persistence.

So how do you get in the right frame of mind? That's a difficult question to answer because it's likely going to be different for everyone. The one constant that I know will be there for everybody is motivation. Motivation is so critical. It's why you go to the gym, go for a jog, pass up McDonalds, or drink water instead of soda. As my old basketball coach used to say, "You gotta want to want it!" Thanks Coach Neil. If you lose sight of your motivation, I guarantee you this, "You will fail!"  This is why I suggest that my clients take the stairs instead of the elevator, park in the back of the parking lot or get up from their desk to take a quick 2 minute stroll twice a day. Let's be real here, those activities are not going to burn a ton of calories. But because they are done with a purpose, they will always help you keep your motivation in plain sight. Try little tricks like this and I guarantee your chances of success will skyrocket!

If you're struggling to find out what your real motivation is, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Take either yesterday or today as an example. How would your day have gone differently if you would have already made the change that you are currently contemplating?
  2. What are the reasons you are NOT satisfied with your current situation or state of health?
  3. What will happen if you don't make changes now?
  4. Why do you want to achieve your goals and how will your life be better?
  5. What is your #1 motivation for starting and sticking with your fitness plan?

Keep this list handy and always refer to it when you're feeling unmotivated.
