Bowflex: You were a running coach?
Jimmy: Yeah. I used to be a running coach prior to this, so I would run, like, 30 miles a week. But leading up to the [fitness challenge], I hadn’t run in three months, so I was excited to really get back into some cardio.
Bowflex: All that running probably took a banging on your knees. When you saw this machine, did you think it could hurt you?
Jimmy: No, actually not. When I first got on the machine, I knew that it was great for me. Growing up, I played basketball, so I experienced a lot of impact on the knees and other joints. Same with running. So when I first got on the LateralX, I was like, This machine’s great.
Bowflex: Can you believe that you got as in shape as you did?
Jimmy: I cannot. Typically, when I go to the gym, I don’t really use cardio machines. So, I was like, Eh, cardio. What can this do for me? I’m used to running. After week four, I started seeing lots of results. I became more lean, shredded in my arms and shoulders. I started feeling it in the legs, working different muscles than I would on a regular elliptical or a treadmill.
As far as the arms, I gained half an inch in both arms, so I’m like, How does that happen? How can you use a cardio machine and actually gain size in the arms? But with the resistance on the LateralX, you’re able push and pull in addition to using your legs. So, you can really a great arm workout as well.
Bowflex: What do you think you can do more effectively in your daily life now?
Jimmy: Overall, my conditioning in general is better, so that when I do go for a run on the beach or something like that, I’m not getting fatigued as quickly. So, that’s something that I really liked about the LateralX.
Bowflex: How would you describe how the Lateral X moves?
Jimmy: The LateralX not only combines a forward and backward pedaling motion, but you can also move side to side, hence, the name LateralX. So you can go as wide as you want. You can start off narrow and widen it based on your comfort level, and your fitness level. You can also add squats into it to really work your glutes and quads a little bit more.
Bowflex: What are people in your life saying about what LateralX did for you?
Jimmy: So, my wife is saying, You’re in the mirror way too much. Get out of the mirror! [LAUGH]. My parents, they’ve seen me fit before, but they haven’t seen me this shredded. So, I think that just seeing how this program worked for me, they’re excited about how a program like this could work for them.
Bowflex: Is this the best shape of your life?
Jimmy: I’d say yes, it is. I don’t think I’ve ever been at 6% body fat, so I think this is the best shape I’ve ever been in. I’ve been a fitness professional for most of my life. I’ve fluctuated between 8-15% body fat, but now, I’m at 6% body fat using the LateralX.
Bowflex: What’s next?
Jimmy: Hopefully, I can keep up this program, not only working out, but keeping the food clean as well. I think that’s huge. I’m excited to just see what’s next.
