The Triangle of Effectiveness
Do you ever feel like you just don’t know where to start when you think about the daunting task of improving or managing your fitness, work, family or life?
When I began my business, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. I needed someone to help me think right before I could do things right.
Luckily I got help. I believe in mentoring and getting coached in life. That’s probably why I became a personal trainer first, and then a high performance coach.
Over the years I have developed a really simple model that I’d like to share with you to help you focus on what you need to do in order to succeed in your efforts to live at your best each day.
It’s called: The One-Two Punch of Results.
The road to extraordinary results starts with a few simple steps:
1. Think Big.
What you do is determined by what you think; how big you think becomes the launching pad for how big you achieve.
When you hear the words, “Think big,” do you run in the opposite direction?
I’ve been in rooms with people who shrink inside at just the very mention of achievement and big thinking because their minds are racing to thoughts of … hard, complicated, time-consuming, failure, not as easy to get there, need to learn something new, overwhelming and intimidating.
The doubt of success has crept in. And once doubt has crept in, it becomes the limiting factor holding most people back from success.
The sad news is that millions will never outgrow this fear in life. The good news is that you can.
There is one undeniable truth that humans have proven over time – there are no limits to what we can achieve. Our only problem is how poorly we estimate our own limits. Shatter the ceiling of your limiting beliefs, and what you dream is possible.
Thinking big is essential to extraordinary results in your life, your fitness, your finances, your profession and your relationships.
As an example, before you begin your fitness journey, think big about your goals. Do you want to lose 60 lbs. in six months, even though you’ve never done it before? Do you want to run a marathon by the end of the year, when the most you’ve ever done is a 10k? Do you want to be in the best shape of your life by 40?
This is one of those situations where your eyes being bigger than your stomach works out. With that said, you don’t want to be so ridiculous that it just doesn’t make sense, but you want to shoot big. I’ve always wanted to sing on stage next to Eddie Vedder, but it isn’t going to happen. But, shooting for a million dollars a year in income is.
Success requires action, and action requires thought.
If you think small, you get small results. Think big, get big results.
Now you need a solid goal, but how do you set it?
Here’s a good rule of thumb: double down every goal in your life.
If your goal is 10, ask the question: “How can I reach 20?” Set a goal so far above what you want that you’ll be building a plan that practically guarantees your original goal.
2. Act Big.
Your next step to simply to start taking action. Most people dream big and do nothing. All a dream takes is your daily commitment to action.
I learned from several of my mentors that while action is great, bold action is the stuff of legend.
Act bold. Don’t fear failure.
Along the way to your dreams, there is no such thing as failure because when you dream big, there is just you getting better, course correcting and taking feedback to your actions. This is why having coaches and mentors is strategy No. 1 in successful people’s lives.
Ask yourself: “What can my life be like if for the next 30 days I take bold action?”
Pick one thing each day to work on, just one thing and go take action.
3. Do it now.
If you avoid perfection, embrace struggle and commit to the things you believe, I can guarantee that just using the one-two punch of results will help you not only think big and act big, but succeed BIG!
