exercise this Independence Day

This Independence Day, don’t just splurge on hot dogs and hamburgers. Keep up those fitness goals by sharing them with your family! July Fourth gives you the perfect opportunity to engage your family, neighbors and friends in a day of fun outdoor activities. We’ve come up with some great Fourth of July ideas for you, just right for unleashing your inner patriot and making your country (and your team) proud.

SHORT ACTIVITIES:

For a set of activities that’s varied and unique, try out some of the classics, including the three-legged race, tug-of-war, sack races, a scavenger hunt (with patriotic items for prizes) and an egg race. Family members will love these exciting games that will bring back childhood memories.

TIME FOR A GAME:

If you’ve got the whole afternoon for a fun time and have enough visitors to play, take out the soccer ball and hit up the neighborhood park! Baseball fields are also great for enjoying America’s favorite pastime, but if you’ve got little ones and no T for them to hit off, try a game of kickball! This cardio workout is sure to get your blood flowing.

TAKE A HISTORICAL TOUR:

If you’re going out of town this time, pick a state with plenty of U.S. history. Take a walking tour or ride your bike while learning all about our nation’s history.

WALK THE PARADE:

If you’ve got a cause to support, join it! Participating in the local parade (particularly by walking or biking) is a great way to use your energy for a cause!

WATER FUN:

Take your Independence Day celebrations to the pool. Work off all that BBQ and deviled eggs with a game of water volleyball!

This year, show your patriotism by giving thanks for your freedom to exercise! We wish you a safe and happy Fourth of July!
