Healthy Back-To-School Snack Options For Your Kids

Fall is almost here, and so are the days of sack lunches and after-school snacks. A healthy snack is fuel for the day — inside the classroom and out on the playground. But something tasty is just as important as something nutritious.

What snacks are your kids eating as they head back to school? Here are some of our favorite back-to-school snacks, and we hope you’ll love them too:

PB&J Pita

Mix up the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich with skinny whole wheat pita bread. This easy-to-make combination packs about 400 calories, and incorporates the necessary grains and proteins kids need.

  • 2 tablespoons jelly
  • 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • 1 slice whole wheat pita bread

Mix-it-up Trail Mix

Finding time for a healthy snack between school and sports practice can be easy with a yummy snack mix. Mix ingredients in a large bowl for sharing, or divide into smaller containers for snacking on the go. This recipe combines crunchy, salty and sweet for about 200 calories in 1/2 a cup.

  • 1/2 cup dried fruit of your choice
  • 2 cups whole grain Rice Chex
  • 1/2 cup roasted unsalted nuts
  • 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips
  • 3 cups of Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal

Energy Bites

These bite-size energy balls pack a punch when it comes to beating hunger. Microwave the peanut butter until creamy, and then mix with other ingredients in a large bowl. Roll batter into 1 inch balls and let cool in the fridge overnight. These delicious bites are a bit higher in calories, but just one serving will provide a boost of protein for the kids during a busy day.

  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 cup flax seed
  • 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla
